Daqua Lameek Ritter, 26, is originally from South Carolina, United States. He is currently based in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA.
On August 4, 2019, Ritter allegedly fatally shot Pebbles LaDime “Dime” Doe, a transwoman. She was 24.
Doe grew up in Allendale, South Carolina. She worked as a hairdresser.
While Ritter was staying with is grandmother in Allendale, South Carolina, he met Doe. He started dating her and her cousing Yanna Albany while he was still in a relationship with his then girlfriend Delasia Green.
Albany found out Ritter was also dating Doe so Albany broke up with him. On the other hand, he and Doe continued their relationship.
Ritter allegedly killed Doe because he was afraid that other people would find out about his relationship with her. In January 2023, he was charged with a hate crime for the murder of a transgender woman because of her gender identity, using a firearm in connection with the hate crime and obstruction of justice.
On February 24, 2024, a unanimous jury found Ritter guilty of murder, obstructing justice and using a firearm. It is the first such conviction in the U.S. for a hate crime based on gender identity.
