Tang Kai (唐凯), 28, of Shaoyang, Hunan, China is still ONE Championship‘s mixed martial arts champion in the featherweight division. He successfully defended his title at “ONE 166“.
Featuring one boxing bout, one submission grappling contest, three Muay Thai matches and five mixed martial arts fights, “ONE 166” was held at the Lusail Sports Arena in Lusail, Qatar on the evening of March 1, 2024. It is the first ever ONE Championship event held in Qatar.
In the co-main event of the evening, Kai defended his title from then interim ONE Featherweight World Champion Thanh Le, 38, of Metairie, Louisiana, United States. Olivier Coste served as the referee.
After 4 minutes and 48 seconds in the third round, Coste stopped the title bout. Kai was declared the winner via technical knockout via punches.
It was a rematch between Kai and Tang. On August 26, 2022, the former defeated the latter via unanimous decision at “ONE 160” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.
On October 7, 2023, Le became the interim ONE Featherweight World Champion. He submitted Ilya Freymanov at “ONE Fight Night 15” in Bangkok, Thailand.
Losing to Kai for the second time downgraded Le’s professional MMA record to 14 wins and 4 losses. The Chinese MMA fighter now has 18 wins and 2 losses.
