Shawn Christopher Cranston, 52, of Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States has been arrested. He is accused of killing Andy Byler‘s wife Rebekah Byler and their unborn child.

Rebekah was an Amish woman who was 6 months pregnant. She lived in Spartansburg, Crawford County, Pennsylvania with Andy and their two children, who were born in 2020 and 2021.

At around 10:00 a.m. on February 26, 2024, a red jeep was seen in the driveway of Andy and Rebekah’s residence on Fish Flats Road in Spartansburg, according to family members. At the time, Rebekah was with her two children in the house while Andy was not home.

Cranston allegedly broke into the residence, fatally shot Rebekah and slashed her throat. At 12: 36 p.m., a woman called 911 to report that she and Andy arrived at the residence and found Rebekah unresponsive in the living room.

Rebekah had a gunshot wound and cutting wounds to her head and neck. Her two children were not physically harmed.

At 1:45 p.m., Rebekah was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 23.

On March 1, 2024, a red jeep was towed from Cranston’s residence in Corry. Just after 7:00 a.m. on March 2, 2024, he was arrested outside of a Dollar General store on Main Street right next to his residence.

Whether or not Cranston and Rebekah knew each other is unclear. But his foster daughter told News Nation Now that his grandson was adopted by the Amish couple who lived in Rebekah’s residence a few years ago.

After being arraigned, Cranston was committed to the Crawford County Correctional Facility in Saegertown, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal homicide and criminal homicide of an unborn child.

On March 15, 2024, Cranston will attend his preliminary hearing. His wife Jamie Cranston, 47, who is a nurse, has yet to release a statement about his arrest.
