John Cena, 46, presented the award for Best Costume Design at the 96th Academy Awards, also known as Oscars 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States on March 10, 2024. The ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, 56.
It was “Poor Things” costume designer Holly Waddington, 46, who won the award. She defeated four nominees namely “Barbie” costume designer Jacqueline Durran, 56, “Killers of the Flower Moon” costume designer Jacqueline West, 44, “Napoleon” costume designers Janty Yates, 73, and Dave Crossman, 54, and “Oppenheimer” costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, 74.
Cena was almost nude when he presented the award. Kimmel said it was the 50t anniversary of a streaking event at the 46th Academy Awards, which was held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on April 2, 1974.
At the Oscars 1974, photographer Robert Opel, then 35, ran across the stage naked and flashed a peace sign with his hand while host David Niven, then 64, was introducing Elizabeth Taylor, then 42. Niven laughed before asking the audience, “Isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?”
Both Niven and Taylor were born in London, England, United Kingdom. He died in Château-d’Œx, Switzerland on July 29, 1983 and she died in Los Angeles on March 23, 2011.
Opel was born in East Orange, New Jersey, USA, Opel. He died in San Francisco, California on July 7, 1979.
