Boris Fernando Bastidas, 35, of Coral Springs, Broward County, Florida, United States worked as a teacher at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in Hollywood, Broward County. He was the head of the school’s social studies department.
Bastidas was also in charge of the Model U.N. club of the school, which named him the Educator of the Year in May 2023. In July 2023, he allegedly started an inappropriate relationship with a student, then 15.
When Bastidas and the student attended a Model U.N. event in New York, USA, they allegedly had sex. Their relationship allegedly ended on February 5, 2024.
After the breakup, the student’s mother called the Federal Bureau of Investigation to report the alleged relationship. She sent record of text messages and emails sent between her child and Bastidas.
On March 24, 2024, FBI agents arrested Bastidas at his residence in Coral Springs. That day, he appeared in court.
At 9:00 a.m. on March 19, 2024, Bastidas will attend his pre-detention hearing. A magistrate judge will determine whether or not he should be released on bond before his trial.
