Steven Charles Newstrom, 66, of Redmond, Deschutes County, Oregon, United States and five other men were arrested in Oregon in a sting operation to catch child sex predators online. It was conducted by the Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET).
Undercover officers posed online as minors and waited for suspects to proposition them for sex. After acknowledging the child’s age, the suspects sent sexually explicit photos and messages about sexual activities they wanted to perform.
On January 30, 2024, Gabriel Julian Harrison-Swinden, 29, of White City, Jackson County, Oregon and Kelly Patrick Ramsey, 57, of Central Point, Jackson County were arrested. They allegedly tried to meet with a juvenile to have sex.
Harrison-Swinden was charged with luring a minor and attempted using a child in the display of sexually explicit conduct and first-degree and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child. Ramsey was charged with using a child in the display of sexually explicit conduct, two counts of luring a minor, two counts of first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and two counts of second-degree online sexual corruption of a child.
On February 3, 2024, Steven Eugene Fitzgerald Buckner, 33, of Tigard, Washington County, Oregon was arrested after allegedly travelling to Jackson County to meet with juveniles to have sex. He was charged with online coercion and enticement of a minor.
On February 27, 2024, Cayden James Vasquez, 25, of Medford, Jackson County was arrested after allegedly trying to meet with a juvenile to have sex. He was charged with luring a minor, attempted using a child in the display of sexually explicit conduct and first-degree and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child.
Harrison-Swinden, Ramsey, Buckner and Vasquez were booked into the Jackson County Jail in Medford. Investigators believe Harrison-Swinden, Ramsey and Buckner have victimized children throughout the U.S.
On March 12, 2024, Andrew P. Jones, 41, of Milwaukie, Clackamas County, Oregon was arrested in Milwaukie and booked into the Clackamas County Jail in Oregon City, Clackamas County. He was charged with luring a minor and second-degree online sexual corruption of a child.
On March 13, 2024, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Newstrom near a Starbucks in Redmond as he tried to meet a juvenile to have sex. He was booked into the Deschutes County Jail in Bend, Deschutes County and charged with second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor.
