Zane Katzenberger, 18, of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States is in jail. He is accused of shooting two people.

At around 1:20 a.m. on March 31, 2024, Katzenberger allegedly shot at multiple people in a crowd in Downtown Albuquerque, the central business district of Albuquerque. Two people were wounded.

The names and ages of the victims were not released. One of them refused treatment after suffering a superficial wound while the other one was taken to a hospital.

After the shooting, Katzenberger ran away but was immediately caught. He had a gun in his waistband when he was arrested by Albuquerque Police Department officers.

Initially, Katzenberger told the officers that he was intoxicated and he did not know where he got the gun from. He later said he bought it through the Telegram app and did not know if it had been used in a crime.

Katzenberger was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque. He was charged with negligent use of a firearm, unlawful carrying of a firearm and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
