Rong Chen, 47, of Fresh Meadows, Queens, New York City, New York, United States and ZhenSheng Yu, 46, of Syosset, Nassau County, Long Island, New York have been arrested. They were both charged with grand larceny.
Chen and Yu allegedly worked together to scam a man, 83 of Saddle Rock, Nassau County, telling the man that his computer had been compromised and there was a suspicious activity with his personal bank account. The elderly man provided a number he had to contact.
Either Chen or Yu told the elderly man to withdraw $16,000 in cash to rectify the problem, which the man did. On January 19, 2024, either Chen or Yu allegedly went to Saddle Rock to collect the money from the victim.
On January 20, 2024, the alleged victim followed the same instructions and gave $15,000 to either Chen or Yu. When the alleged victim was contacted again, he refused to comply and called the police.
On April 8, 2024, both Chen and Yu were arrested. The latter was arraigned that day.
Both Chen and Yu were released to pretrial services. The Saddle Rock man they allegedly victimized was granted an order of protection.
