Daniel Klein, 51, of Upper Chichester Township, Pennsylvania, United States is accused of failing to care for his bedridden mother. He remains in the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Thornton, Pennsylvania and was not able to post $50,000 bail.
Packages piled at the front door of Klein’s residence in Upper Chichester Township, a neighbor noticed. When neighbors tried knocking on the front and back doors, nobody answered.
At around 12:20 p.m. on April 8, 2024, Upper Chichester Township Police Department officers visited the residence and found stacked packages and white plastic bags of food around the front door. They saw trash and flies inside the residence and got no response at the front and back doors.
After the officers forced their way into the residence, they were met by Klein, who told them his mother was sleeping. They found her in a bed covered by a soiled blanket.
The mother was unconscious but breathing. Emergency medical services workers arrived, removed the blanket from her and found that she had ram’s horn toenails and her lower half was covered in maggots and dried feces.
With some effort, the EMS workers were able to remove the mother from the bed. She remained fused to the bed sheets and was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania for treatment.
Klein was arrested and charged with abusing a dependent person and reckless endangerment. Authorities have yet to confirm his mother’s condition.
