Mohammed Abdul Arfath of Nacharam, Hyderabad, Telangana, India has died. He was 25.
From 2017 to 2022, Arfath attended the TKR College of Engineering & Technology in Meerpet, Hyderabad where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management. His father Mohammed Saleem works at construction sites.
In May 2023, Arfath entered Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, United States to pursue his master’s degree in information technology. As of January 2024, he was no longer a registered student at the university.
On Marc 5, 2024, Arfath left his residence at Reserve Square in Cleveland then went missing. On March 7, 2024, he talked to his father on the phone.
After the conversation, Arfath’s cellphone switched off. On March 8, 2024, surveillance camera captured him at a Walmart store.
On March 19, 2024, an unidentified person called Saleem demanding $1,200, claiming that Arfath had been kidnapped by a gang selling drugs. When the father asked to talk to his son, the caller refused.
The caller threatened to sell Arfath’s kidney if his family did not pay the ransom. However, the caller did not mention the mode of payment.
On April 8, 2024, Arfath was found dead and his body was retrieved from the waters of Lake Erie near Voinovich Bicentennial Park in Cleveland. The cause and manner of his death have yet to be released.
