Dr. Maya Hayes, 46, of Albany, Albany County, New York, United States is an associate psychologist at Brookwood Secure Center for Youth in Claverack, Columbia County, New York. It is a maximum security residential center for male and female juvenile offenders and adolescent offenders who committed certain violent felonies while younger than 16.
As part of Raise the Age legislation, these offenders were convicted and sentenced either in adult criminal court or via family court. They may remain in the Office of Children and Family Services depending upon their sentence.
Dr. Maya Hayes arrested
Between 2020 and 2022, Hayes allegedly sexually assaulted eight victims between the ages of 16 and 18 while she was working at the Brookwood Secure Center for Youth. In December 2022, unspecified contraband was found at the center so the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People With Special Needs conducted an investigation.
On April 12, 2024, Hayes was arrested by New York State Police troopers in conjunction with the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, the New York Office of Children and Family Services and the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People With Special Needs. She was arraigned before Judge Brian Herman at Columbia County Court in Hudson, Columbia County, New York.
A grand jury indicted Hayes on 62 counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and three counts of third-degree rape. All charges are felonies.
Hayes was released under the supervision of the Columbia County Probation Department. She was required to surrender her passport and report daily.
On July 12, 2024, Hayes will appear in court. OCFS removed her after her arrest.
