Frederick Eugene “Trey” Pierallini III, 27, of Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, United States pleaded guilty to two federal hate crimes on July 6, 2023. He admitted to using force or the threat of force to intimidate two black women because of their race.
On April 24, 2024, Pierallini was sentenced to five years in prison. It will be followed by three years of supervised release.
Pierallini is Megan Pierallini and Jeffery Backus‘s brother. Their father Frederic Eugene “J.R.”Pierallini II died on January 12, 2008 and J.R.’s father Frederick Eugene Pierallini died on September 29, 2012 at age 70.
Trey went to First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia, USA. He attended the Jacksonville campus of Tulsa Welding School from December 2021 to July 2022 and studied history at the Florida State College at Jacksonville in Jacksonville.

On September 10, 2022, Trey went to the Daily’s Place on Chaffee Road South in Jacksonville to buy a cheese stick and a Slim Jim but his card declined. He called employees N—-r and tried to walk out of the convenience store with unpaid merchandise.
Trey scolded a female clerk at the register for not knowing how to do her job. She is a black woman.
After directing racial slurs at the clerk, Trey left the store, retrieved a shotgun from his car and pointed it at the clerk. She ran away in fear after he pulled the slide back to open the chamber and loaded a bullet into it.
On September 12, 2022, Trey approached another black woman who was sitting in her walker on the public sidewalk. He told her she could not sit there and directed racial slurs at her.
After threatening to kill the woman, Trey left, returned with a shotgun and fired a single shot. She was not shot but she fell to the ground and sustained injuries while he took off in a white truck.
On September 14, 2023, Trey’s mother notified police that he was currently at her residence in Lakewood, Walton County, Florida, taking a shower. Police officers responded to the residence and arrested him.
