Terry Clark Hughes Jr. of Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States has died. He was 39.
Aside from Lincoln County, Hughes lived in other parts of North Carolina including Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and Semora, Caswell County. On June 28, 2012, he was arrested in Alamance County, North Carolina after crashing during a police pursuit.
That day, Hughes was served on outstanding warrants from four North Carolina counties. He was booked into the Alamance County Jail in Graham, Alamance County.
Joshua Eyer, Sam Poloche, William Alden Elliot
At around 1:30 p.m. on April 29, 2024, members of the fugitive task force of the U.S. Marshal Service went to a residence on Galway Drive in Charlotte with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers to serve a warrant on Hughes for having a firearm by a convicted felon. He was wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of felony to elude out of Lincoln County.
William Alden Elliot and Sam Poloche were among the US Marshals. Joshua Eyer was one of the CMPD officers.
The officers were met by gunfire from inside the residence so they used a high-powered rifle to return fire, which killed Hughes. He was pronounced deceased in the front yard.
A 30-minute shootout ensued. Elliot, Poloche and Eyer were fatally shot.
As officers approached Hughes, they were met by more gunfire from inside the residence. They later cleared the residence, took two people in custody and brought them to the police station as persons of interest.
The names of the two persons of interest have yet to be released. Authorities have yet to confirm who shot Elliot, Poloche and Eyer.
Eyer was a 6-year veteran. Both Elliot and Poloche were 14-year North Carolina Department of Adult Correction veterans and task force officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Elliot and his wife have one child. Poloche and his wife have two children.
