The University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, United States has yet to expel James Pearson “JP” Staples, 21, of Plano, Texas, USA. He is a senior student.
In August 2021, Staples entered the university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in real estate and finance. He joined the university’s fraternity Phi Delta Theta.
Staples is Albert James “Jay” Staples Jr. and Bethany “Beth” Bailey Staples‘ son. Jay’s grandfather Dr. James Reley Staples served as a Southern Baptist pastor, editor and educator for 50 years.
James graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, USA, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA and held a doctorate from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, USA. On January 3, 2005, he died in Dallas, Texas at age 84.
Why did JP Staples go viral?
On May 2, 2024, a group of 30-60 pro-Palestinian protesters gathered at the University of Mississippi. One of them was Ole Miss graduate student Jaylin R. Smith, 24, who is black.
The group was confronted by more than 200 counterprotesters. Among the counterprotesters were Ole Miss students JP, Rouse Davis Boyce, 20, of Flora, Mississippi and Connor Rix Moore Jr., 22, of Indianola, Mississippi.
Boyce was caught on camera taunting Smith and JP was caught on camera jumping up and down and hooting like a monkey toward her. Videos of the encounter went viral on social media.
On May 3, 2024, Phi Delta Theta terminated JP’s membership. He deleted all of his social media accounts that day.
On May 5, 2024, the University of Mississippi’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chapter called for the expulsion of JP, Boyce and Moore. The three men are still Ole Miss students.

JP graduated from Plano West, comes from a privileged family who are members of Gleaneagles Country Club, Plano Texas. His brother Bryce is a freshman at Ole Miss. They are known as a racist family. The mother Beth comes from very wealthy family. They should test there kids for drugs maybe that would explain some of the behavior. The family thinks this is the best thing that has happened as JP is going to come back bigger. better and stronger.
