Euclid resident Deshawn Anthony Vaughn had a violent criminal history. In June 2023, he turned 24.
Just before 10:00 p.m. on May 11, 2024, Euclid Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of East 211th Street in Euclid where Vaughn was allegedly going to harm a woman and others. One of the officers was Derbin.
When the officers went to check the backyard of the residence, they were ambushed by gunfire so they returned gunfire. During the gunfire exchange, Derbin was critically wounded.
Derbin was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. His fellow officers who responded to the scene were unharmed.
On May 12, 2024, Vaughn was found dead in a residence in Shaker Heights, Cuyahoga County. How he died is still unknown.
