Jian Ji Wu, 63, of Canaan, Somerset County, Maine, United States has been arrested. The arrest was in connection with an illegal marijuana growing operation in the town.

Who is Jian Ji Wu?

Before moving to Canaan, Wu lived in Skowhegan, Somerset County. In 2020, he purchased a residence on Hinckley Road in Canaan.

For months, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office investigated the residence. At around 9:00 a.m. on May 14, 2024, the residence was raided.

Somerset County Sheriff’s Office detective lieutenant Carl Gottardi II led the search team. Also in the team were an agent from the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, an agent from the Department of Homeland Security, two investigators from the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy, three detectives from the police department of Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine, three Somerset County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies and five other Somerset County Sheriff’s Office detectives.

Aside from various pieces of drug-related paraphernalia and documentation, a total of 859 marijuana plants and more than 30 pounds of processed marijuana were seized. Wu was arrested during the raid.

Bail for Wu was set at $25,000. He was booked into the Somerset County Jail in Madison, Somerset County and charged with cultivation of marijuana and trafficking of scheduled drugs.
