Maria Camila Avella Montañez represented Casanare, Colombia at Miss Universe Colombia 2023 and competed against 23 other candidates at the Puerta de Oro Centro de Eventos del Caribe in Puerta de Oro, Barranquilla, Colombia on September 2, 2023. She won the title.

Runner-up to Avella was Adriana Catalina Numa Vega of Norte de Santander. The second runner-up was Lina María Hurtado Mosquera of Buenaventura.

Miss Universe Colombia 2024

On June 2, 2024, Avella will crown her successor at the Puerta de Oro Centro de Eventos del Caribe in Puerta de Oro. It is the fourth edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the Miss Universe candidate of Colombia.

Colombia was represented in Miss Universe by the winner of Señorita Colombia from 1958 to 2019. Laura Victoria Olascuaga Pinto of Bolivar, Colombia won the inaugural Miss Universe Colombia on November 16, 2020.

Currently, Colombia has 39 Miss Universe placements including the coronations of Luz Marina Zuluaga Zuluaga in 1958 and Paulina Vega Dieppa in 2014. The most recent one was achieved by Avella.

On November 19, 2023, Avella represented Colombia at Miss Universe 2023 and competed against 83 other candidates at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador, El Salvador. She finished in the Top 5.

Avella made history as the first married woman to represent Colombia in Miss Universe and the first mother to represent the country in the international beauty pageant. She married Nassif Kamle on June 20, 2020 and she gave birth to their daughter Amelia Kamle Avella in April 2021.
