Jelani Volante Nixon, 20, of Zebulon, Wake County, North Carolina, United States is being held without bond. He is accused of sexually abusing a girl, 14, in New Hanover County, North Carolina when he was 19.
Zebulon is around 24 miles away from Raleigh, Wake County. Known as the City of Oaks, the latter is the seat of Wake County.
Why was Jelani Nixon arrested?
Nixon had a series of text messages with the girl he allegedly sexually abused. When her parents discovered them, they notified the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
A warrant was Nixon’s arrest was issued and police in Wake County were notified. On May 24, 2024, a car he was travelling in was pulled over on Hammond Road in Raleigh.
Raleigh Police Department officers arrested Nixon. He was booked into the New Hanover County Detention Facility in Castle Hayne, New Hanover County.
On May 28, 2024, Nixon made his first appearance in court. He was charged with sexual offense with a child by an adult offender, indecent liberties with a child, solicitation of a child by a computer and appearing and statutory rape of a child less than or equal to 15 years of age
