Jonathan Randall Yelvington, 37, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States has been arrested. He is a Colorado Springs Police Department canine officer.

On June 1, 2024, Yelvington turned 37. Just after 9:30 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for urgent medical assistance.
Both the department and the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the call. Responding officers and medical personnel found Yelvington intoxicated while he was with his police canine and a child.
Initially, Yelvington was unresponsive. At the time, he was off duty.
That evening, Yelvington allegedly unreasonably placing the child in a situation that posed a threat of injury. The child was temporarily placed with a responsible adult.
Yelvington’s police canine did not bite anyone. It was housed at a dog-boarding facility.
Yelvington was arrested for misdemeanor child abuse and released with a summons to appear in court. He was placed on paid administrative leave while awaiting his court appearance.
