Miss Universe was won by the United States via Miriam Stevenson in 1954, Carol Morris in 1956, Linda Bement in 1960, Sylvia Hitchcock in 1967, Shawn Weatherly in 1980, Chelsi Smith in 1995, Brook Lee in 1997 and Olivia Culpo in 2012. Representing the country, R’Bonney Gabriel won the 71st edition of the international beauty pageant on January 14, 2023.

Gabriel was born in Houston, Texas, USA. She turned 30 on March 20, 2024.

Currently, Texas is the U.S. state with the most Miss USA placements with 56. The state won the title via Kimberly Tomes in 1977, Laura Martinez Herring in 1985, Christy Fichtner in 1986, Michelle Royer in 1987, Courtney Gibbs in 1988, Gretchen Polhemus in 1989, Chelsi Smith in 1995, Kandace Krueger in 2001, Crystle Stewart in 2008 and Gabriel in 2022.

On July 15, 2023, Lluvia Camila Alzate represented Houston at Miss Texas USA 2023 and competed against 91 other candidates at Hilton Post Oak Hotel in Houston. She won the title.

Runner-up to Alzate was Mary Sickler of Northwest Houston. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Lilian Claire Perez of San Antonio, Taylor Lauren Davis of Collin County and Samantha Havenstrite of Post Oak.

On September 29, 2023, Alzate represented Texas at Miss USA 2023 and competed against 50 other candidates at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, USA. She was fourth runner-up to Noelia Voigt of Utah.

Miss Texas USA 2024

On June 22, 2024, Alzate will go back to Hilton Post Oak Hotel to crown her successor. It is the 73rd edition of the state-level beauty pageant that selects Texas’s candidate for Miss USA, which selects the Miss Universe candidate of the U.S.
