Natalia Carvajal Sánchez represented Costa Rica in Miss Eco Universe and Miss Universe. She is the fifth Costa Rican beauty queen in place in Miss Universe.
Costa Rica has been competing in Miss Universe since 1954. The country finished in the Top 15 in 1954 via Marian Esquivel, Top 10 in 2004 via Nancy Soto, Top 10 in 2011 via Johanna Solano and Top 16 in 2013 via Fabriana Granados.
Based in Cairo, Egypt, Miss Eco Queen was established in 2015. It was renamed Miss Eco Universe in 2016 and Miss Eco International in 2017.

Carvajal is a Costa Rican actor, publicist, television host, model and beauty queen. She was born in Escazú, San José, Costa Rica to Freddy Carvajal and Arlette Sánchez.

- She was one of the 10 celebrities who competed in “Dancing with the Stars Costa Rica” Season 4, which aired on Teletica from September 10, 2017 to November 26, 2017. She and her partner Erik Vasquez were the third pair to be eliminated.
- On April 14, 2017, she crowned her successor Miss Eco International 2017 Amber Lynn Bernachi of Canada at the Maritim Jolie Ville International Congress Center in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
- On April 27, 2018, she competed against eight other Miss Costa Rica 2018 candidates at Teletica’s Studio Marco Picado in San Jose. She won the title.
