Why was Victor Hugo Escobedo arrested?
In February 2024, Escobedo turned 52. Shortly after noon on September 6, 2024, he allegedly kidnapped a woman and her daughter, 2, from the parking lot of Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso.
While the woman was putting her daughter in the car seat, she was approached allegedly by Escobedo. Brandishing a black and yellow handgun, he allegedly forced the woman drive to the bank and withdraw money and rob her.
As the woman withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from the bank, Escobedo allegedly waited in her truck with her daughter. Afterwards, he allegedly forced the woman to drive back to the mall parking lot, took her money and cell phone and fled.
After being identified by detectives with Crimes Against Persons as the suspect, Escobedo was arrested. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility in El Paso.
Bond for Escobedo was set at $550,000. He was charged with aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon.
