Ilya Tsaruk of Snohomish, Washington, United States and his wife Sophia Kovalevich Tsaruk have died. He was 25 and she was 26.
What happened to Ilya Tsaruk and Sophia Tsaruk in Maui?
Both Ilya and Sophia enjoyed singing. Ilya is Anatoliy Tsaruk‘s brother and Sophia is Ilona Tsymbalyuk‘s sister.
In March 2023, Sophia gave birth to Logan Tsaruk. He is Ilya and Sophia’s first child.
Recently, while Logan was staying with his aunt and uncle, Ilya and Sophia went on vacation in Hawaii, USA with Anatoliy, Anatoliy’s wife and another couple. On September 14, 2024, the couples were swimming at the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve in Maui, Hawaii wearing full face snorkel masks when they ran into trouble in the water.
Neither Ilya nor Sophia came back in to shore while the other two couples did. Rescuers later found Ilya and Sophia unresponsive and brought the couple back to shore.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered to both Ilya and Sophia. However, they were both later pronounced dead at the beach.
Sophia was pregnant when she died. She was supposed to give birth in December 2024 to a baby girl, who did not survive when her parents drowned in Maui.
