Jonar I. Arenas, 48, of Bloomfield, Essex County, New Jersey, United States has been arrested. He is accused of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he believed to be a minor.
Where was Jonar Arenas arrested?
In August 2024, a detective from the High Technology Bureau of the Monmouth County, New Jersey prosecutor’s office went onto an app. Arenas later contacted the detective who was monitoring the app.
After discussions on the app and other forms of communication, Arenas tried to set up a sexual encounter with the person he thought was a boy, 14.
On September 18, 2024, Arenas was arrested without incident in Freehold, Monmouth County. He was charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault of a minor, second-degree luring and third-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child.
The charges can require registration on a Megan’s Law sex offender registry and lead to parole supervision for life. They can also bring maximum prison terms of five to 10 years.
Arenas was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township, Monmouth County. He awaits future court proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court in Freehold.
