Pawlet, Vermont, United States residents Brian Crossman Sr., his wife Erica Pawlusiak Crossman and her son Colin Taft have died. Brian was 46, Erica was 41 and Taft was 13.
Taft is Erica’s son and Brian’s stepson. Brian’s son Brian Crossman Jr., 23, is a resident of Granville, New York, USA.
In June 2024, Brian Sr. and Erica got married. He was a member of the Pawlet Select Board slated to serve a one-year term through March 2025.
Why was Brian Crossman Jr. arrested?
On September 15, 2024, Brian Sr., Erica and Taft were fatally shot inside their residence in Pawlet allegedly by Brian Jr. The deaths were ruled homicide by the medical examiner.
Brian Sr. was shot in the head and torso while Erica was shot in the head. Taft had multiple gunshot wounds.
It was Brian Jr. who called 911 to report the incident. He told the authorities he had gone for a walk and found the victims when he returned.
On September 20, 2024, the Vermont State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Brian Jr. After the issuance of the arrest warrant, the New York State Police located him and took him into custody.
That day, Brian Jr. made an initial appearance in Warren County Court in Lake George, New York on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. He was detained without bail pending an appearance before a New York judge and the initiation of proceedings for his extradition to Vermont.
Brian Jr. was charged with three counts of aggravated murder. He reportedly had a learning disability and a history of mental health issues.
