Diamond Langi, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, was crowned Miss Universe New Zealand 2019 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre of Auckland Girls’ Grammar School in Auckland on August 17, 2019. She was not able to crown her successor from 2020 to 2023.

On December 8, 2019, Langi represented New Zealand at Miss Universe 2019 and competed against 89 other candidates at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. She was unplaced.

New Zealand was represented in Miss Universe in 1954, in 1957, from 1960 to 1974, from 1975 to 1978, from 1979 to 1989, from 1992 to 2001, in 2003, from 2006 to 2012 and from 2013 to 2019. In 2024, Josh Yugen became the new Miss Universe New Zealand national director but he was later replaced by Maria Siayngco.

On March 21, 2024, Yugen officially appointed Frances “Franki” Russell as New Zealand’s Miss Universe 2024 candidate. On July 30, 2024, her participation in the international beauty pageant was cancelled due to compliance issues.
