Diamond Langi won Miss Universe New Zealand 2019 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre of Auckland Girls’ Grammar School in Auckland, New Zealand on August 17, 2019. She was unplaced when she represented the country at Miss Universe 2019 and competed against 89 other candidates at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on December 8, 2019.
New Zealand was not represented in Miss Universe from 2020 to 2023. Franki Russell was appointed Miss Universe New Zealand 2024 on March 21, 2024 but she was dethroned on July 30, 2024 due to compliance issues.
On September 29, 2024, Victoria Velasquez Vincent won Miss Universe New Zealand 2024 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre Performing Arts Centre in Auckland. She was crowned by Langi.
Currently, New Zealand has five Miss Universe placements including the coronation of Lorraine Downes in 1983. The most recent one was in 1992 when Lisa Maree de Montalk finished in the Top 10.
