Jaime Tran, 30, is a former resident of Riverside, California, United States. He used k1llalljews as his handle on social media and had a history of making antisemitic remarks.
Did Jaime Tran hate Jewish people?
In 2018, Tran left dental school after making hateful comments about other students whom he perceived to be Jewish. From August 2022 to December 2022, his antisemitic statements escalated.
In November 2022, Tran emailed a flyer containing antisemitic propaganda to 24 people who used to be his classmates. The flyer contained the statement, “EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF THE COVID AGENDA IS JEWISH.”
In December 2022, Tran emailed excerpts from an antisemitic website to his former classmates, further denigrating Jewish persons. In January 2023, he paid around $1,500 in cash to a third party to buy two firearms for him in Phoenix, Arizona, USA because he was prohibited from purchasing one as a result of previous mental health holds.
On the morning of February 15, 2023, Tran used to the internet to research locations with a kosher market and drove to Pico-Robertson, Los Angeles, California and shot a Jewish man at close range centimeters from the man’s spine.
The victim was wearing a yarmulke and leaving religious services at a synagogue. After shooting the victim, Tran fled the scene in his car.
On the morning of February 16, 2023, Tran went back to the Pico-Robertson area, shot another Jewish man at close range and fled the scene. Also wearing a yarmulke, the victim was crossing the street and leaving a synagogue after attending religious services.
Both victims survived.
On February 17, 2023, Tran was arrested after shooting a firearm behind a motel. On June 3, 2024, he pleaded guilty to two counts of using, carrying and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and two counts of hate crimes with intent to kill.
On September 30, 2024, Tran was sentenced by U.S. District Judge George Wu to 35 years in prison. The judge explained that he did not impose the 40 years sought by prosecutors because of the mental health issues of the former Riverside resident, who was represented by Katherine T. Corrigan.
