Erik Galen Menendez is a Cuban-American man born in Blackwood, New Jersey, United States to Jose Enrique Menendez and Mary Louise “Kitty” Andersen Menendez. Jose was born in Havana, Cuba while Kitty was born in Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA.

Jose and Kitty had another son named Lyle Menendez, who is three yers older than Erik. When Lyle and Erik were young, according to them, they were molested by Jose.

1. In 1984, Jose allegedly molested Roy Rosello, then 14, in New Jersey. In 1986, he, Lyle, Jose and Kitty moved to Beverly Hills, California, USA. 
2. In December 1988, he allegedly wrote a letter to his cousin Andy Cano, which reads, in part, “I’ve been trying to avoid dad. It’s still happening, Andy, but it’s worse for me now. … Every night I stay up thinking he might come in. … I’m afraid. … He’s crazy. He’s warned me a hundred times about telling anyone, especially Lyle.”
3. He was knocked out in the second round of qualifying of the boys’ 18 singles at the 1989 U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) National Championships, which was held at the Stowe Stadium of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA from August 5-13, 1989.
4. On August 20, 1989, he and Lyle fatally shot their parents inside their residence in Beverly Hills.
