Who shot Aubree Horton?
Aubree Clay Horton of Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, United States has died. He was 32.
Horton was a police officer in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. He attended the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia where he played football and was married to Jamica Natasha Horton, 29, of Winston.
Aside from Winston, Horton has lived in other parts of Georgia including Carrollton, Tallapoosa and Villa Rica. In November 2015, he joined the Atlanta Police Department.
In 2019, Aubree and Jamica got married. On October 18, 2023, he turned 32.
On May 21, 2024, Aubree filed for divorce from Jamica in Cobb County, Georgia. While assigned to the Atlanta Police Department’s fugitive unit, he helped in the investigation of the disappearance of Leondre Flynt, who was 21 when he was found dead in July 2024.
On September 24, 2024, Aubree received the Investigator of the Year award at the Atlanta Police Foundation‘s 20th Annual Crime is Toast Awards. At around 5:00 a.m. on October 4, 2024, he was found inside his neighbor’s house in Winston.
It is unclear why Aubree tried to break in the house. Acting in self-defense, the neighbor fatally shot the police officer.
At the time of the incident, Aubree was off-duty. He appeared to be under the influence of narcotics or experiencing a mental health episode, according to a preliminary investigation.
