Why was Jacob Tarver arrested?
Jacob Wayne Tarver, 45, of Burnet, Texas, United States was a member of the safety team of The Epicenter, a religious organization in Burnet. Kyle Byrd, 63, of Burnet is the founder and the senior leader of the group.
Aside from Burnet, Tarver has lived in other parts of Texas including East Bernard, Granite Shoals, Houston and Kingsland. In 1996, he was convicted in Caldwell, Texas for making a false report.
In February 2024, Tarver turned 45. On the morning of October 6, 2024, he called 911, gave the address to The Epicenter, requested police response and hung up.
Just after 10:30 a.m., Burnet County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to The Epicenter for a welfare check. Tarver told them he confronted two suspicious men outside the church.
According to Tarver, one of the two men presented a rifle. Tarver added that after he fired multiple rounds, both men got in a white minivan and fled the scene.
On October 7, 2024, Tarver admitted that he had fabricated significant details of the incident and lied to law enforcement and others about it. No hostile actions were directed or taken at The Epicenter by any persons and no weapons were brandished towards the church or the safety team member, according to Burnet County sheriff Calvin Boyd.
Tarver was arrested and charged with deadly conduct, false report to induce an emergency response and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. He was booked into the Burnet County Jail in Burnet awaiting a hearing to set bail.
