Daniel Schmidt, 24, of Orland Park, Cook County, Illinois, United States has been arrested. He was charged with disorderly conduct, two counts of aggravated battery to a victim over 60, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place and five misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest.

On the morning of November 3, 2024, Schmidt entered the Orland Park Township Office in Orland Park and skipped a line of around 100 people waiting to vote at the early voting location. He ignored an election judge posted at the entrance who told him to go to the back of the line and wait his turn.

Another election judge, 74, approached Schmidt and told him to go to the back of the line. He tried to push past the election judge, who prevented him from entering, and started to yell profanities.

Schmidt punched the election judge in the face, knocking the victim’s glasses off, and struck a woman, 81, knocking her off balance. That was when another voter and another poll worker stepped in and wrestled the Orland Park man down.

At around 11:00 a.m., Orland Park Police Department officers arrived and found Schmidt retrained by numerous people inside the office. He tried to resist while the officers were placing him under arrest.

The Orland Park man was held overnight. He was transported to Bridgeview Courthouse in Bridgeview, Cook County for a detention hearing.
