Who is Brandon Ortiz-Vite?
Brandon Ortiz-Vite is a citizen of Mexico who illegally entered the United States more than once. Originally from Puebla, Mexico, he first entered the U.S. illegally as a child.
Later, Ortiz-Vite was approved to stay in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Barack Obama, the 44th U.S. president, signed the executive order that created the program.

He was booked into the Kent County Jail in Grand Rapids.
- On March 26, 2024, he was arraigned and ordered held without bail.
- On September 23, 2024, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
- On October 6, 2024, he turned 26.
- On November 7, 2024, he was sentenced in Kent County Circuit Court to 39 years in a Michigan prison for killing Garcia.
