What did De Sean Phang do to Joel Vilsaint?
De Sean Phang, 28, has been arrested. He was wanted by the police department of Miramar, Broward County, Florida, United States on a felony arrest warrant for second-degree murder with a firearm in connection with the death of Joel Vilsaint.
Phang and Juliean Sellmon, 26, of North Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County, Florida are accused of killing Vilsaint. On March 22, 2023, Vilsaint was found laying on the sidewalk bleeding in the 1800 block of South Hiatus Road in Miramar.
Vilsaint was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Broward County where he died. He was 15.
On April 27, 2023, Sellmon was arrested by the Miramar Police Department. He was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.
On January 17, 2025, a warrant for Phang’s arrest was issued. He had fled Florida and was possibly hiding in Colorado, USA, according to information developed by task officers from the Miramar Police Department assigned to the Florida-Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force – Fort Lauderdale division of the U.S. Marshals Service.
On February 3, 2025, that information was relayed to the U.S. Marshals Service’s Colorado Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF) in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA. Investigators learned that Phang was moving between Colorado Springs and other parts of Colorado.
On February 4, 2025, the COVOTF located a rental car Phang was traveling in. That day, he was arrested in Colorado Springs by the COVOTF along with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the police departments of Colorado Springs and Fountain, El Paso County.
Currently, Phang is awaiting extradition. He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center in Colorado Springs.
