Lamont Carter, 46, of San Jose, California, United States is a registered sex offender. He was recently arrested.

On the evening of February 26, 2025, a woman was with Carter on the 300 block of North Fifth Street in San Jose. She agreed to get in his vehicle to talk but refused when he allegedly tried to kiss her several times.

The car’s doors were locked so the woman could not leave. Carter allegedly sexually assaulted her and threatened her with a firearm.

After the attack, the woman was able to escape and get help. Carter already left the crime scene before San José Police Department officers arrived at 5:28 p.m.

On February 27, 2025, another woman met Carter near Story Road and Knox Avenue in San Jose and voluntarily entered his vehicle. On the way to pick up something from her residence, he allegedly told her he had a firearm but he did not show it to her.

From the woman’s residence, the two went to  the area of Hellyer Avenue near Embedded Way on the way there, Carter allegedly consumed a controlled substance. He allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted the woman when they arrived at their destination.

The woman managed to get away and ask help from someone, who immediately called the police. At around 9:30 p.m., SJPD patrol officers responded to the report.

On February 28, 2025, Carter was arrested in San Jose and charged with sexual battery, criminal threats and false imprisonment. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose.

In 2023, five people died while in the custody of the Santa Clary County Sheriff’s Office across the jail, hospitals in Santa Clara County and the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, Santa Clara County. The number of deaths doubled in 2024.

Five of the deaths in 2024 were attributed to natural cause, two were by suicide and one is attributed to a fatal drug overdose while awaiting a plea hearing. The causes of the two other deaths are under investigation.

In January 2025, three male Elmwood Correctional Facility inmates were charged with attempted murder and torture after attacking another inmate, who was on life support after being attacked. The three attackers were transferred to Santa Clara County Main Jail.
