Named after a Shiprock rock formation, Shiprock is an unincorporated community on the Navajo reservation in San Juan County, New Mexico, United States. The community is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place for statistical purposes.

San Juan Agency superintendent William Taylor Shelton founded Shiprock on September 11, 1903. He was a U.S. government instructor in agriculture at the Cherokee School in Yellow Hill, North Carolina, USA, which is now Cherokee, North Carolina.

Written and directed by Ramona Emerson, “The Mayors of Shiprock” was released in August 2017. It is a documentary about a group of young Navajo leaders in Shiprock.

Born on the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, Amber Midthunder is a citizen of the Fort Peck Assinboine and Sioux Tribe. Her father David Midthunder is an actor of f Hunkpapa Lakota, Sisseton Dakota and Sahiyaiyeskabi Assiniboine descent.

Amber’s mother Angelique Susan Roehm Midthunder is of Thai, Chinese, British and American descent. Angelique is a casting director and a stunt performer.

David and Angelique met while they were working on Kihachi Okamoto‘s film “East Meets West”, which was released in Japan on August 12, 1995. The film starred David as Red Hair and Angelique as Nantai.

In 2025, Amber will star in at least two films. She will turn 27 on April 26, 2025.

Amber plays Belle in “Opus”, which will hit theaters on March 14, 2025. The film also stars Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, Tatanka Means, Tony Hale, Melissa Chambers and Tamera Tomakili.

Also hitting theaters in the U.S. on March 14, 2025 is “Novocaine”. In the film, Ambers’s character Sherry Margrave is kidnapped by bank robbers.
