In 2018, Steadman was convicted of possession of child pornography, violating a protective order and failing to register as a sex offender. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment with three years suspended and five years of supervised release to follow.

In March 2024, Steadman was released from prison on an unspecified charge. He started living at a residence where an underage boy also resided.

On April 30, 2024, Steadman was asked to move out of the residence. On May 1, 2024, the underage boy was forensically interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center in Juneau.

While on supervised released, Steadman enticed the underage boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct. The adult man then recorded the abuse and posted the child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the dark web using an alias.

Through thorough analysis of online statements tied to the alias and a cryptocurrency payment for additional CSAM, authorities identified Steadman. The officers who searched his room at an extended stay hotel in Juneau where he was staying found more than 4,000 images and videos of CSAM on his devices.

On August 17, 2024, Juneau Police Department officers arrested Steadman in the vicinity of the hotel on a $1,000 warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. On September 6, 2024, he was arrested on a federal charge for illegal activities that occurred on or about March 28, 2024 through August 26, 2024.

On September 12, 2024, Steadman made his initial court appearance before U.S. magistrate judge Matthew M. Scoble of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska in Anchorage. The suspect, who participated remotely from Juneau, was charged with sexual exploitation of a child.

On December 8, 2024, Steadman turned 35. On March 31, 2025, he pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography.

The Juneau man will be sentenced on a later date. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison.
