Born in Breslau, Germany, Schmidt turned 87 on November 11, 2024. After her reign as Miss Universe 1961, she pursued a career in acting.
Miss Universe Germany 2024
On April 28, 2024, Pia Theissen of Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany won Miss Universe Germany 2024 at Living Hotel De Medici in Düsseldorf, Germany. The respective first and second runners-up were Annabelle Keller of Cologne and Ilke Nizam of Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany.
On November 16, 2024, Theissen represented Germany at Miss Universe 2024 and competed against 124 other candidates at the Arena Ciudad de México in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City, Mexico. She was unplaced.
Miss Universe Germany 2025
On April 6, 2025, Theissen’s successor will be crowned in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is the 16th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Germany’s Miss Universe candidate.

The Miss Universe Germany national director was Kim Kotter from 2009 to 2019 and Natalie Ackermann from 2021 to 2024. On March 6, 2025, Kim Kelly Braun became the new national director.
Born in Mannhein, Germany to a German father and Thai mother, Braun turned 30 on July 12, 2024. On October 25, 2022, Braun represented Germany at Miss Grand International 2022, competed against 67 other candidates at the Sentul International Convention Center in West Java, Indonesia and was unplaced.
