Dr. Gerhardt Konig is an American anesthesiologist based on Maui in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. Before moving to Hawaii, he lived in other parts of the U.S. including California and Pennsylvania.

BIOGRAPHY

Konig and his first wife Jessica L. Patella have two sons together. He and his second wife Arielle Konig, a nuclear engineer, lived on Maui with their two sons Olin Konig and Viggo Konig.

A member of the American Board of Anesthesiology, Gerhardt was employed by the Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku, Maui County as an independent contractor when he was arrested in March 2025. His parents Pieter E. Konig, a pharmacist, and Anwill M. Konig are based in Poway, California.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering and biomedical engineering at the University of California, San Diego in San Diego, California, Gerhardt earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 2022

• On September 27, 2022, he obtained his medical license in Hawaii, which was set to expire on January 31, 2026.
• In December 2022, he and Arielle bought a five-bedroom house in a cul-de-sac nestled in the foothills of the West Maui Mountains on Maui for $1.5 million.

2023

• In March 2023, he joined The Anesthesia Medical Group in Honolulu, Honolulu County as a partner.

2024

• On April 29, 2024, he hosted a party at his residence in Maui County, which was attended by his neighbors including Lee Hearne and Peter Mast.
• In December 2024, he accused Arielle of having an affair, leading to “extreme jealousy”, she wrote in her restraining-order petition.

2025

• At around 10:00 a.m. on March 24, 2025, he used a rock to strike Arielle in the head about 10 times and tried to inject her with a syringe filled with an unknown liquid while they were hiking the Pali Puka Trail on Oahu, Honolulu County, she told police, according to court documents filed on March 27, 2025. At around 10:38 a.m., she managed to escape and ask help from two female hikers who called 911. He fled the area but was arrested shortly after 6:00 p.m. by Honolulu Police Department officers near Nuuanu Pali Drive in Honolulu and booked into the Oahu Community Correctional Center in Honolulu.
• On March 27, 2025, he made his initial appearance before Judge Kristine Yoo in Honolulu District Court on the charge of second-degree attempted murder of Arielle. The judge set his bail at $5 million.
• On March 28, 2025, he was indicted by a grand jury and denied bail.
• On April 7, 2025, he entered a not guilty plea when he appeared in court via video from the Oahu Community Correctional Center with his lawyer Thomas Otake.
