Alonzo Soeuk

Alonzo Soeuk of Columbus, Ohio turned 3 on April 9, 2013. Almost four months later, he died.

Soeuk’s mother Rachanee Linda Soeuk was Avina-Casillas’s live-in girlfriend. On August 7, 2013, the Mexican man and Rachanee got into an argument at their apartment on Buffalo Court in South Side, Columbus.

During the argument, Avina-Casillas allegedly picked up Alonzo and squeezed the boy in a bear hug. The boy lost consciousness.

With a female friend, Rachanee took her unresponsive son to the emergency department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Southern Orchards, Ohio. He was not breathing and he had no heart rate.

At 10:07 p.m., Alonzo was pronounced dead. Several days earlier, he was treated in the hospital for an injured arm.

An autopsy confirmed Soeuk died as a result of being squeezed and the boy suffered internal injuries and bleeding. On September 3, 2013, his death was ruled a homicide.

On September 6, 2013, Avina-Casillas was charged with murder. He managed to hide from authorities until his recent arrest in Mexico and extradition to Ohio.
