During summer break after the 2022-2023 school year, Andrews contacted a student, then 14, through Snapchat. She asked the student to meet her at a predetermined location before taking the teenager to a residence described by the child as a mansion.
On multiple occasions, Andrews sexually assaulted the teenager not only at that residence but also at a park. She gave the child marijuana and used it with the child.
Following Andrews’ instructions, the child lied about their whereabouts and told their mother they were working on a project. Before the abuse surfaced, the reading interventionist resigned from McMichael Middle School.
In July 2023, Andrews was arrested. On August 22, 2024, she pleaded guilty to three counts of online solicitation of a minor and four counts of sexual assault of a child.
In court, Andrews took the stand and asked the court to excuse her behavior, saying her academy schooling left her sheltered and unprepared for the world. She also said her actions should be treated lightly due to a recent autism diagnosis from an expert hired by the defense.
On April 8, 2025, 420th district judge Malcolm Bales found Andrews guilty of seven of her 12 charges and sentenced her to two years in prison, which are set to run concurrently. The former teacher was also issued a $5,000 fine and required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
Andrews was allowed to return home for 30 days. On May 9, 2025, she is required to turn herself at the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office in Nacogdoches for her prison sentence.
