Simms and his wife Taneisha Simms‘ child was allegedly being bullied by the child of Jones and his girlfriend. On March 18, 2025, the first couple confronted the second couple about the bullying allegation.

At around 7:30 a.m. on March 19, 2025, Jones repeatedly shot John at a school bus stop in the 100 block of Clay Street in Annapolis where a dozen students were waiting for the bus. Tiesha Contee‘s son, 11, who was standing at the bus stop, was struck by a bullet in the foot and injured.

Medics took the boy to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He was released at around 1:00 p.m.

On the other hand, John was pronounced dead at another hospital. He was 36.

After the shooting, Jones went on the run. A warrant for his arrest was issued and he was charged with murder.

After receiving the warrant, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) of the U.S. Marshals Service initiated a fugitive investigation to determine Jones’ whereabouts. Investigators found out he was living in an apartment in the 1400 block of 1st Street in Southwest, Washington, D.C., USA.

At around 7:11 a.m. on April 7, 2025, members of the CARFTF and Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia officers conducted an enforcement operation to arrest Jones in that apartment. He initially refused to comply with their commands.

Eventually, Jones was taken into custody without further incident. Two firearms located in the apartment were seized.

This is not the first time Jones was arrested. In 2011, he pleaded guilty to carjacking in Prince George’s County and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

In 2019, Jones was accused in a homicide case in Washington, D.C., which was later dismissed. In 2021, he pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in Washington, D.C. and was sentenced to four years in prison and three years of supervised release.

In April 2025, Jones was released. On May 29, 2025, he will turn 32.
