“Eddington” is one of the 19 films selected to compete for the Palme d’Or in the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. It is a contemporary Western black comedy film written and directed by Ari Aster.
Born into a Jewish family in New York City, New York, United States, Aster is an alumnus of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) in Sante Fe, New Mexico. On July 15, 2024, he turned 38.
Juliette Binoche
Born in Paris, France, Juliette Binoche briefly attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique (CNSAD) in Paris. In 1983, she made her professional acting debut playing minor roles in the films “Liberty Belle” and “Dorothée, Danseuse de Corde”.
Binoche played an antiques dealer in Abbas Kiarostami‘s art film “Certified Copy”. For this role, the French actor won Best Actress at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
In 2023, Binoche and Benoît Magimel starred in “The Taste of Things”, France’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards. In 2024, she starred in Uberto Pasolini‘s drama film “The Return” opposite Ralph Fiennes and played Coco Chanel in the Apple TV+ series “The New Look”.
On March 9, 2025, Binoche turned 61. She will serve as the jury president of the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from May 13-24, 2025.
“Eddington”
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, Joaquin Phoenix turned 50 on October 28, 2024. In “Eddington”, he plays Joe Cross, the sheriff of Eddington, New Mexico.
The film is about a standoff in May 2020 between the sheriff and a mayor, which sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington. It was shot in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Truth or Consequences, New Mexico from March 2024 to May 2024.
Auburn Ashley plays a medical worker in the film. Also in the cast are Amélie Hoeferle, Austin Butler, Cameron Mann, Clifton Collins Jr., Dan Davidson, Deirdre O’Connell, Emma Stone, Gabe Kessler, King Orba, Luke Grimes, Matt Gomez Hidaka, Micheal Ward, Pedro Pascal, Rachel de la Torre, Russell C. Gibbs and William Belleau.
