Aside from Opelika, Campbell has lived in other parts of Alabama including Auburn and Fort Payne. She teaches at Opelika Middle School on Denson Drive in Opelika.

In February 2025, Campbell turned 47. On April 15, 2025, Opelika Police Department detectives started investigating allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship between her and a former Opelika Middle School student that occurred in 2014.

According to the accuser, they were in seventh and eighth grades when Campbell had sexual intercourse with them. Investigators found evidence that corroborated the accuser’s claims.

On April 24, 2025, Campbell was arrested and charged with second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy. Opelika City Schools placed her on administrative leave after her arrest.

Opelika City Schools is accredited by the Alabama State Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Farrell Seymore, 51, has been the superintendent of the school district since June 2022.

Seymore was the Opelika Middle School principal from July 2007 to June 2011. Kristen Williams, 43, has been the principal of the school since May 2024.

Opelika is the seat of Lee County. Shane Healey, 54, is the Opelika Police Department chief and Gary Fuller, 81, is the incumbent mayor of the city.

In 1991, Healey joined the department as a paid informant and communications operator. He became a sworn officer in July 1992, promoted to captain in May 2014 and became the chief in January 2021.

After becoming a member of the city council in 2000, Fuller was elected mayor on August 24, 2004. He was reelected in August 2008, reelected unopposed in 2012 and reelected to his fourth and fifth terms in 2016 and 2020, respectively.
