Agusan del Sur is one of the five provinces of the Caraga Administrative Region of the Philippines. The others are Agusan del Norte, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
Bayugan is the only component city in Agusan del Norte. The province has 13 municipalities namely Bunawan, Esperanza, La Paz, Loreto, Prosperidad, Rosario, San Francisco, San Luis, Santa Josefa, Sibagat, Talacogon, Trento and Veruela.
Santiago Barriga Cane Jr. served as the vice governor of Agusan del Sur from June 30, 2007 to June 30, 2016 and has been the governor of the province since June 30, 2019. Born in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, he turned 67 on February 2, 2025.

Agusan del Norte celebrates a cultural and historical festival called the Naliyagan Festival every June 17. The province has a total of 314 barangays, 32 of which are in Prosperidad, the capital of the province.
On April 14, 2013, Grace Yann Apuad represented Prosperidad at Binibining Pilipinas 2013 and competed against 49 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She finished in the Top 15.
On July 26, 2020, June Cyra Pineda represented Talacogon at Miss Philippines Earth 2020 and competed against 32 other candidates in a virtual coronation ceremony. She was unplaced.
