Baguio is the only independent city in the Cordillera Administrative Region of the Philippines. The city is home to The Mansion, the official summer palace of the president of the country.

Miss Universe 1952 Armi Kuusela met her first husband Virgilio Hilario in Baguio. The city is home to Gwendoline Meliz Soriano.

From 2015 to 2018, Soriano attended Saint Louis University in Baguio to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communication. On August 30, 2024, she represented Bakakeng Central at Miss Baguio 2024, competed against 12 other finalists at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center and won the title.

On May 2, 2025, Soriano represented Baguio City at Miss Universe Philippines 2025 and competed against 65 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. She finished in the Top 12.
