Davao del Sur is one of the five provinces in the Davao Region of the Philippines. The others are Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental and Davao Oriental.
Davao City is the only independent city in the Davao Region. The city is geographically located in Davao del Sur but is independent from the province.

Digos is the capital of Davao del Sur and the only component city in the province. The province has nine municipalities namely Bansalan, Hagonoy, Kiblawan, Magsaysay, Malalag, Matanao, Padada, Santa Cruz and Sulop.
On September 30, 2021, Jedidah Korinihona represented Davao del Sur at Miss Universe Philippines 2021 and competed against 27 other candidates at the Henann Resort Convention Center of Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol, Philippines. She was unplaced.
On May 28, 2023, Katrina Anne Johnson represented Davao del Sur at Binibining Pilipinas 2023 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She ranked third and was named the first runner-up.
On May 11, 2024, Irha Mel Inutan Alfeche represented Matanao at Miss Philippines Earth 2024 and competed against 28 other candidates at the Talakag Covered Court in Talakag, Bukidnon, Philippines. She won the title.
