La Union is one of the four provinces in the Ilocos Region of the Philippines. The others are Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan.

On June 30, 2022, Raphaelle “Rafy” Veronica Alviar Ortega David officially became the first female governor of La Union. Her term will end on June 30, 2025.

San Fernando is the capital of La Union and the only component city of the province. The province also has 19 municipalities namely Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Luna, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, San Gabriel, San Juan, Santo Tomas ,Santol, Sudipen and Tubao.

On October 25, 2020, Trizha Ocampo represented La Union at Miss Universe Philippines 2020 and competed against 45 other candidates at the Cordillera Convention Hall of Baguio Country Club in Baguio, Philippines. She was unplaced.

On August 6, 2022, Vallery Paulite represented Bauang at Miss Philippines Earth 2022 and competed against 18 other semifinalists at Tag Resort in Coron, Palawan, Philippines. She did not make it to the Top 10.
