Lanao del Sur is one of the five provinces of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) region of the Philippines. Marawi is the only component city in the province, which has 39 municipalities.

Marawi native Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr. is the eldest son of Mamintal M. Adiong Sr. and Soraya Alonto Adiong. Also born in Marawi, Mamintal Sr. assumed office as the governor of Lanao del Sur on June 30, 2001 until his death.

Mamintal Sr. turned 67 on August 8, 2003. On July 3, 2004, he died in Iligan, which is geographically located in Lanao del Norte, Philippines but independent from the province.

On June 30, 2007, Bombit assumed office as the governor of Lanao del Sur. His mother succeeded him on June 30, 2016 and he succeeded her on June 30, 2019.

Soraya turned 80 on January 7, 2024 and died on December 27, 2024. She is Ahmad Domocao Alonto and Momihna Malawani Alonto‘s daughter.

On March 17, 2025, Bombit turned 60. On June 30, 2025, he will assume office as the governor of Lanao del Sur again.
