Mandaue is geographically located on the coastal region of Cebu, Philippines but is independent from the province. The city has a total area of 34.87 square kilometers.
Born in Mandaue, Emmarie “Lolypop” Mabanag Ouano Dizon served as a councilor in the city from June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2016. She has been the congresswoman of the city since June 30, 2019.

On August 30, 1969, Mandaue became a chartered city. It was recognized as a highly urbanized city on February 15, 1991 and it became a lone legislative district on April 5, 2019.
Established in 1973, Cebu Doctors’ College was established in Mandaue. In 2005, it was renamed Cebu Doctors’ University.
On April 30, 2022, Isabel Dalag Luche represented Mandaue at Miss Universe Philippines 2022 and competed against 30 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
On May 22, 2024, Victoria Leslie Ingram represented Mandaue at Miss Universe Philippines 2024 and competed against 52 other candidates at the same venue. She was unplaced.
